The National Electrical Code of Canada


The National Electrical Code of Canada is also referred to as NEC. The NEC is a book of the Canadian electrical regulations for the construction industry.

The focus is on safety and health. It establishes standards for all electrical components and applications. This is to provide protection against the occurrence of electrical fire hazards.

Some of the areas covered are:

· Electric conductors
· Wiring and circuitry
· Control panels
· Electrical service

The National Electrical Code 2005 version is currently available. The formats are soft cover, loose leaf or CD- ROM.

The National Electrical Code is used in conjunction with the National Building Code.
