Decorators

Decorators do not require any formal training or education. An interior surface refers to paint, fabric, furniture, window treatments and so on. They are not qualified to design projects involving any change to building components. They can hire an architect on their clients’ behalf, if any alteration to the building is involved.

They design interior home environments. This process involves visual elements (color, shape, texture, lighting) as well as style (traditional, contemporary, urban, country).

They are creative while also keeping in mind the function of the space. They have a talent for color coordination and interior styles. They are knowledgeable about the types of products available for the home and where to purchase them.

They will provide samples, sketches or pictures for discussion with their client. They supply the appropriate information to the client, once a style is agreed to, as clients may decide to do the work themselves.

However, they often provide other services to the client. This could include recommending a painter or flooring installer. Or they will handle the purchasing of furniture, drapery or accessories for their client.

Others will take on the responsibility of coordinating and managing all aspects of the entire project for their client, from start to finish.
