Interior Designers

Interior design deals with the interior space of a building.

Interior designers create functional living or working environments, for public or private interior spaces.

They are professionally trained through education and experience. Registered means they have passed examination standards and are a member of an association.

While being creative, they abide by the building code and established standards of the applicable province.
Barrier-free planning for the handicapped is incorporated when required by the codes.

Knowledge of interior building construction and material finishes is part of the creative process. Planning ranges from the visual (color, shape, lighting) to the functional (use of space, acoustics or noise factors).

Their information is current. Specialists in the building industry, such as lighting, flooring or fixture consultants provide information on current products or methods.

Distinction in a field is common. Some will specialize in commercial work, such as retail stores or restaurants. Others will specialize in residential projects.

They are responsible for producing construction drawings and specifications. This takes place once a plan and concept is established with the client. In most cases, plans by either an electrical, mechanical, or structural engineer are a part of these drawings.

Other services can often be arranged. Project management or building permit applications are an example.
