Local Building Departments


Local building department refers to a government office, which has jurisdiction over a district within each province. The district is either a city, town or municipality. The building department has the authority to oversee all construction work, which requires a building permit.

The officials can answer construction questions according to provincial code regulations.They approve permit applications and drawings to ensure all proposed work complies with the codes and district by-laws. Once a submission is approved, a permit is issued for the project.
