Stay Organized
Take Photos

Staying organized applies to any size project. Even the one you plan on doing yourself.

Keep all information related to the work together and in one place. Take photos of your project, as it gets under way.

To keep the paperwork, samples, order forms, invoices, etc. together, try this method.

Get a large envelope, shoebox or any container. Label it with the name of your project. Any information that is related to your project in any way, goes in there. Just throw it in. This becomes so useful, especially on large projects. Any questions or misunderstanding are easily resolved. You know exactly where to find what you are looking for. Your back up information is all in one place, in the envelope or box. Later, all this information becomes a handy reference for other projects.

Get a small notebook and use it only for this job. Take it with you where ever you go. You can jot down any ideas or questions as they occur to you. This way you won’t get distracted and forget. You will be prepared for all meetings with the person you hired.

Take Photos

Take many pictures of your project as it progresses, from beginning to end. These photos are great to look back at when your project is finished. It’s fun to share them with family or friends. These photos can also be invaluable. They are a visual record of your project in case any problems arise.
