Other Types of Permits


This is a short list of other types of permits that are often required for residential and commercial projects.

They are issued on their own (if that is the only work involved) or in conjunction with a building permit.


Development Permit

A development permit is required to ensure that the proposed construction suits the area or neighborhood with respect to the zoning of the area. Areas are zoned as residential, commercial, industrial, conservation and so on. This permit applies to new construction as well as any change in use of an existing building or structure.


Occupancy Permit

An occupancy permit is required to ensure that a new or renovated building is safely completed and ready to be lived in or used by the public.


Plumbing Permit

A plumbing permit is required when new water pipes are installed in a new or existing building.


Gas Permit

A gas permit is required when new gas pipes are installed in a new or existing building.


Electrical Permit

An electrical permit is required when electrical wiring is installed in a new or existing building.


Demolition Permit

A demolition permit is required to demolish or remove a portion of an existing building.
A demolition permit is required to demolish or remove the entire building.


Sign Permit

A sign permit is required for the installation of a sign on a new or existing building.
